Work Permits

Please download the appropriate work permit based on your age and complete it in ink, not pencil. Then follow the process below depending on the time of year.

During the school year (Sept. - mid-June): Once you have completed Section I and your employer has fully completed Section II (no blanks), please email the form to the Registrar, Ms. Henne (chenne@birmingham.k12.mi.us) or take the hard-copy to the Registrar's office in the Student Center. The form will be returned to you in the same manner that it was received either email or in-person during school hours.

Summer (Email processing only): Once you have completed Section I and the employer has fully completed Section II (no blanks), please email the form to the Registrar, Ms. Henne (chenne@birmingham.k12.mi.us). The form will be completed and emailed back to you. You may then email the form to the employer.

When submitting the permit, it is important to provide all information requested on the form. Permits that have missing details will be sent back to the student for completion, which will cause a delay in the process.

  • The Youth Employment law allows in-person, remote and electronic methods that are acceptable to the school or school district issuing the work permit. As such, all permits may be completed by scans and email.
  • The Youth Employment law has removed the yellow and pink paper distinctions. The act now uses a different means to distinguish work permits for youth under age 16 versus those 16-17 years of age. Landscape for under 16 and portrait for 16-17 years of age.
